Are you building a telescope and want a great solid mount and altitude bearings? Or would you like to replace an old or poorly manufactured mount or have something made specifically built for your comfort and is easier to carry?
Our mounts and altitude bearings are custom designed per order, so we can supply what works best for you. We've been building many variations of custom mounts for over 20 years.
Our solid mounts and clamshell rings with bearings are rigid, lighter weight, built to last and made to precisely fit your telescope's tube. We use top/proven materials so you get great performance.
These mounts, rings and bearings are CNC manufactured to insure uniformity and precision. We design for minimum weight with maximum rigidity/stability, but can accommodate taller mounts or add extra stiffening for a nominal additional cost - we are happy to discuss your needs prior to ordering.
Our materials are 3/4" Baltic Birch plywood with Teflon and Formica Crystal 909-42 laminate on the altitude and azimuth bearing surfaces. Lightening holes are designed to make the mount lighter and easier to carry. Baltic birch plywood is much stronger and lighter weight than the typical pressed-wood used on mass-manufactured mounts, and not prone to their water absorbing and deterioration.
We stiffen the mount with internal captive 3/8" dowels between front, side and bottom boards, which are then screwed together. Bearings are made to fit the curve of your tube and ride securely on the mount. If your telescope is overly heavy, we can design additional stiffeners.
If you request a special design feature we will accommodate if at all possible at no additional cost.
All our work is guaranteed. If there is any workmanship issue, we work with you to make it good.
Upon receiving an order we reply asking for a few simple dimensions from your existing telescope tube, then send a dimensional pdf parts drawing for approval or revision. Once approved CNC and manufacturing time is scheduled. Mount and bearing kits currently take under 30 days from approval of drawing to ship date.
