Edmund Scientific 28mm RKE Eyepiece
The legendary "floating effect EP"
In 1975, Edmund Scientific came out with the RKE eyepiece, which is a modified Kellner. By using a computer-aided design for the lenses, low dispersion glass, and reversing the order of the lenses, the severity of the Kellner problems was lessened.
I've owned the complete set of RKE's for over 20 years. They are well made and threaded for filters. They are sharp edge to edge, with no noticeable distortion and bright. These are not Kellner type eyepieces, the RKEs are far superior. They are nearly identical to the Plossls I have, a bit brighter and a little more eye relief, but a slightly narrower field of view. I think these are the most reasonable, good quality eyepieces available, and they have a good value.
