For acquisition is a Meade LX-200 GPS telescope and an SBIG STV camera that can be used as a cooled camera or as a guider for the telescope. The telescope is currently mounted on a Scope Buggy that allows it to be rolled around. It has a lot of accessories in addition to the SBIG STV system with cooled camera. The accessories include, Scope Buggy, Weather Proof Cover, SBIG STV cooled camera/tracker, Crion Dew Zapper, Mead Super Plossl 26mm eyepiece, 6.4 mm eyepiece, 9.7 eyepiece, 12.4 mm eyepiece, 15mm eyepiece, 20 mm eyepiece, 32 mm eyepiece, and carrying case for the eyepieces. A Teleview 3X Barlow Eyepiece is included. A JMI field case with wheels for easy and safe transport is included. Electric focus system, Meade series 4000 f/6.3 Focal Reducer and Field Flatner is included. A Meade USB camera is also included. This package was over $4,000 when purchased new by me, the sole owner. I am selling this telescope because it is not being used. It is inside of a garage with doors seal to keep out the rain. It is stored with a purchased cover over the main components and optics.
The telescope is in good condition and the coated optics do not show scratches or other sources of distortion. There is one possible problem that needs to be checked out. At one time the hand controller had a problem with data entry during the calibration process. Given this potential problem I have priced the telescope and STV system with enough savings to allow the hand controller or telescope to be returned to Meade for correction. I think that you will agree a price of $1,650 for the entire package leaves room for controller problem correction, assuming that such a problem exists. The power cord for the telescope electronics is not in the best of condition, and should be replaced.
I do not recommend this scope and STV system as a starter system for a starting amateur astronomer, but if the candidate was really dedicated the learning curve could be mastered. All of the instruction manuals are with the package, and there is plenty to learn. This package will do a lot before you run out of capability. I would really like to have a very smart High School level student (astronomy nerd who lives and breaths astronomy) get this telescope. The ideal candidate would be a young man or young lady who has a telescope now but wants to do serious astronomy and wants to make the next step up to a guided telescope, or wants to use the telescope with the SBIG STV system as a cooled camera. This package will do a lot of serious research for science fair projects or other astronomy projects.
This telescope and accessories is located in west Marietta, GA and is for pick-up only, unless you want to send a shipper out to package. The telescope also has the original shipping box, but there is no shipping box for the tripod. I will not be able to ship due to back problems. Please ask any questions via the Ebay message center. If for some reason the request for pick-up only does not appear in the descriptive material, please do not bid thinking something has changed. I can't box and ship.
I will hold the telescope for you for 90 days once the Ebay sale is over if you are the winner, if you need time to pick it up. The telescope is at my home and I am located only about 6 miles west of the town of Marietta, GA and an equal distance for Interstate 75. Again, if you have questions, do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for looking.
