Meade 12" LX200 Classic Telescope Complete

This telescope is ideal for viewing planets and imaging narrow-field deep space objects. The remarkably long 3048 mm focal length provides good inherent magnification compared to other telescopes with similar 12" and smaller aperture. Long focal length also makes this type of telescope more susceptible to atmospheric disturbances when seeing is poor or a target is low in the sky, and to jitter when handling the scope by hand, and therefore this type of telescope is typically not recommended for beginners.

The scope base can be mounted directly on the tripod and operated in ALT/AZ mode (best for visual observation and star parties).

The telescope and base are heavy (71 lb per owner's manual) but can be lifted on and off the tripod by one person. Despite the lifting, the overall setup process is relatively easy. The hand controller provides go-to capability with reasonable accuracy, but it doesn’t always put targets in the eyepiece. Note that with the classic hand controller you have to enter targets by number according to the catalog in the back of the owner's manual (and available online).
