Collimation~Newtonian reflector~Star test

Do you know the difference between the two? Many people do not. In short Astronomy is a science based on the observations of stars. And Astrology is seen as fortunetelling.

People like Linda Goodman did a lot to convince people that Astrology is indeed more than fortune telling. Her description of character are sometimes amazingly accurate. I mentioned in an earlier article that no astronomer will take Astrology seriously. However there was one.

Kepler the Analyst. Johannes Kepler was born in 1571 and seemed to have luck against him with a father that was unreliable and a mother that was very unpopular. She was accused of witchcraft but acquitted after three years. He eventually won a scholarship to the University at Tubingen. He wanted to become a Lutheran pastor but ended up teaching math and astronomy. Through what many believe as luck he made some weather predictions and put it on an almanac. When his predictions were fulfilled he gained a reputation as an astrologer. Later in his life he still earned money through his almanacs.

Was Kepler an astronomer or did he enjoy the money that came with his reputation? He believed in the theory that the Sun was the center of the Universe. It is difficult to say, but he involved him in the study of planetary motion and with a strong mathematical ability formulated laws ruling the planets motion. He also studied the motion of Mars in particular. While doing this he also continued his involvement with numerology and astrology. Kepler eventually proved the Copernican theory as an accurate description of the heavens and died in 1630.

Though he was involved with Astrology, Numerology and Astronomy, his work paved the way for modern Astronomy. I am not convinced that Kepler took astrology seriously and believe his accurate predictions of the weather rather came from his exceptional understand of nature. Any person studying the stars, especially in those days, had to have spent many hours outside. He was obviously a keen observer of things around him and selling his almanacs put him in a position to print the Rudolphine Tables, his masterpiece.

Leon is the creator of the spiritual Ozymandeus Challenge which has astronomy at its roots. You can read more on his site at : http://ozymandeus.com/landing.htm

Which telescope do you think would be best from these two?

These are the two I am looking at, it's all my budget allows so can't afford others. They look pretty similar but not sure which one is better value.

Thanks!

Neither for a beginner. Both are on what appear to be shaky equatorial mounts. You do understand that they will need to be polar aligned FIRST to be able to use them. Do you know how to polar align a telescope?
